Psalm 16: God, Our Champion and Redeemer

King David suffered a lot of trials of tribulations across his life: King Saul trying to kill him, the passing of his newborn child, and his own son trying to kill him. You name it, he’s faced it. But through and through God has helped him each step of the way. Now, if God can do it for a King that lived over 2,000 years ago, what’s to say He cannot do the same right now for you and me? Well, guess what He can! God has got me through a lot of tough spots in my life and has been the source of my preservation and even my mental health recovery.

Psalm 16:1-11, written by King David, is where I like to turn to remind me of God’s love and how He will be my help through the trials of my life. I believe this will help you too:

Preserve me, O god, for in You I put my trust.

O my soul, you have said to the Lord,

“You are my Lord,

My goodness is nothing apart from You.”

As for the saints who are on the earth,

They are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight.”

Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god;

Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer,

Nor take up their names on my lips.

O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup;

You maintain my lot.

The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;

Yes, I have a good inheritance.

I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel;

My heart also instructs me in the night season.

I have the Lord always before me;

Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices;

My flesh also will rest in hope.

For You will not leave my soul in Sheol,

Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

You will show me the path of life;

In your presence is fullness of joy;

At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore

Psalm 91: God’s Love, Protection, and Promise for You

Although the author of Psalm 91 is unknown, the author lets the reader know that the love, protection, and promises of God will be upon them, especially through the tribulations of life. I like to read this to fortify myself with strength and God’s promise of love, protection, and promises throughout the day and night time. God will do the same for you too! So without further Aude, here is Psalm 91:

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High

Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;

My God, in Him I will trust.”

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler

And from the perilous pestilence.

He shall cover you with His feathers,

And under His wings you shall take refuge;

His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,

Nor of the arrow that flies by day,

Nor the pestilence that walks in darkness,

Nor the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

A thousand my fall at your side,

And ten thousand at your right hand;

But it shall not come near you.

Only with your eyes shall you look,

And see the reward of the wicked.

Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,

Even the Most High, your dwelling place,

No evil shall befall you,

Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;

For H shall give His angels charge over you,

To keep you in all your ways.

In their hands they shall bear you up,

Lest you dash your food against a stone.

You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,

The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;

I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;

I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.

With long life I will satisfy him,

And show him My salvation.”
