Social Media and Mental Illness

Fliza Hussain M.D. writes a post on Mayo Clinic website about the misconceptions that the media can place on mental illness. And due to it’s world wide influence, it “teaches” people about mental illness in their societies. Dr. Hussain also goes over the top 6 misconceptions on how individuals with mental illness are treated for their condition and then debunks them:

  1. Lithium
  2. Straitjackets
  3. Detaining patients
  4. Shock Therapy
  5. Medications
  6. Hypnosis
